ADAIRSVILLE, Ga. — South Carolina’s Travelers Rest Speedway will host the exciting Crate Racin’ USA Thunder Bomber Shootout Series March 26 for its third event of the season, and a three-way tie for the touring circuit’s points lead will draw the lion’s share of fans’ attention when competitors begin to roll through the gates for the $1,000-to-win event slated on a Friday night at the 3/8-mile oval.
One of the Carolinas’ most exciting weekly divisions will race a dozen times this season for a prestigious series championship, featuring events at six different facilities. In addition to Travelers Rest, the touring series will visit four more tracks during the rest of the season, and has already made its lone appearance of the year at Lancaster (S.C.) Motor Speedway.
Winners of the first two events include Blake Bentley in the season opener held Feb. 27 at Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, N.C,, while the winner on March 13 at Lancaster was hometown driver Jonathan Hinson.
As the series points standings get reshuffled during the early stages of the season, a hotly-contested battle among three different drivers has shown the competitive nature of a division that features more than its share of side-by-side racing. Hinson, Hank Taylor and Mattison Hoots all have accumulated 97 markers, and sit atop the standings—tied. Luke Doggett [89 points] and Dylan Montgomery [75 points] round out the top five in the standings.
Benji Knight is the reigning series champion, but has not entered the first two events of the season.
Gates open at 5 p.m., and the drivers meeting is slated for 7 p.m. Hot laps will begin at 7:30 p.m., and racing will follow. Check www.trspeedwaysc.com for additional information, including ticket prices.
